The past 3 months have not been very eventful.
At work, we ran a big event for one big client with six thousands participants, a few times higher than our usual peak. The backend has been scaled up and load tested before hand. In the end, it was a legacy frontend code that ate up the presenter’s machine CPU. System is as robust as the weakest node.
Operating a large postgres db in production revealed some of its quirks. When a table column got updated in place often or widen in length, postgres no longer trusts its saved statistics and skips index scanning. Auto analyze threshold is important.
The kid is growing up fast. He likes to say “no” to a lot of things nowaday, kinda his default answers to questions. And it is kinda of powerful to see that, as us adults often find it easier to say yes all the times. He screams in joy when seeing desserts.
We have looked for a nursery for the boy and settled on one that is close to home, with the teachers seemed warm and caring. The director is a Canadian with no teaching background on his profile. The school was opened right before Covid, what a time to debut. Yet it lasted through lockdowns. So maybe there is something that works despite the lack of credentials.
